Lenten Programs to Prepare for Easter Begin March 1

Triduum Retreat April 13-15; Holy Week Services Open to All

Posted: February 27, 2017

Lent, the 40-day period of fasting and prayer before Easter, begins Ash Wednesday, March 1, and culminates in the joyous celebration of Easter on April 16. But do we really know what we’re celebrating?  Do we fully understand what the cross, the ultimate symbol of Christianity, is all about?

Holy Family Associate Retreat Director Bill Walsh will lead a discussion of this topic in his Ash Wednesday Retreat on March 1 titled “The Price and The Promise of Easter.” The day session runs from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and the evening session, from 6-9 p.m. Ashes will be distributed at both programs. The offering to attend is $40 and includes lunch or dinner.

Beth Malley wants to help make your Lenten journey a creative one. She’ll offer a seven-week program, “Color Me Hopeful,” beginning March 7 and running through April 18. In the first six sessions, participants will color, create and assemble mandalas, and in the seventh, they’ll create a small book of their work. Class meets Tuesday evenings from 7- 8:30 p.m. The cost for the series is $95.

Those wishing to enter more deeply into the most sacred of Christian holy days are invited to sign up for the "Holy Week Triduum Retreat: The Path of Transformation," which starts on Holy Thursday, April 13, and runs through Holy Saturday, April 15.  Led by the Holy Family Retreat Team, this silent retreat for men and women offers a peaceful and reflective way to experience Christ’s Passion and Resurrection. Two options are available – Thursday dinner through Saturday brunch ($315) or Thursday dinner through Saturday dinner and the 8 p.m. Easter Vigil Mass ($345).

Everyone, of course, is welcome to take part in the following Holy Week Services at Holy Family:
• Holy Thursday, April 13, Commemoration of the Lord’s Supper, 8 p.m.
• Good Friday, April 14, Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion, 3 p.m.; Taize Evening Prayer Service, 7:30 p.m.
• Holy Saturday, April 15, 8 p.m. Easter Vigil Mass, followed by a reception
• Easter Sunday, April 16, 10:30 a.m. Mass

Finally, celebrate the conclusion of the Easter season at our annual Easter Concert taking place Saturday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m.  The concert is followed by a wonderful reception prepared by Chef Joe. The cost is $40.
